The First Times

My dad cuddled me for the first time…
To tell that love is unconditional and knows no bound

I ran to the park to play for the first time…
To know that there are moments to have fun even after periods of stress

I smiled and said “thank you” to my friend for the first time…
To learn that even a sweet half candy when shared can make you happy

I shared a childhood secret with my college friend for the first time…
To make myself believe that there are people whom I can trust

I fell down from my bicycle to bruise my toe for the first time…
To understand that I might fall in life but rise again from the ashes

My teacher taught me how to read and write for the first time…
To show me that knowledge is ubiquitous and can be gathered

My heart felt something for someone else for the first time…
To assure me that there’s a lot more than “me” and that is “us”

I fought with a friend in the neighborhood for the first time…
To face the fact that some people can just let you down unexpectedly

I saw someone leaving and bid goodbye for the first time…
To teach myself that there is nothing like “everlasting”

I saw my brother moving from home to boarding for the first time…
To prepare myself for the same as life is not always about comfort

I went to office and met my new colleagues for the first time…
To enjoy the idea of discovering new things and exploring my life

In love I was hurt for the first time…
To realize that somewhere it was to make my love stronger

I opened my eyes to a newly blessed life for the first time…
To imagine that god might give you a second chance anytime

So for all those first times that you had in life, thank yourself and go on…
